The Platános – located on the sand dunes region of Hungary, 150 km from Budapest – is surrounded by 30 hectares of meadows, groves and forests. Remaining faithful to the rural elegant style and the peaceful atmosphere of past centuries, we wished to create a family-friendly place living up to today’s expectations.
There is a Neoclassical main building, an eight box stable, an old servants’ house converted to a summer kitchen, a sauna house, a wine and meat cellar all in an authentic milieu typical of the countryside. The mansion is surrounded by vast terraces shadowed by the old sycamore trees it is named after. There is a large swimming pool and a sand arena in the garden surrounded by a beautiful forest.
Our four double rooms and two family suites are equipped with everything you need for a comfortable stay. All the rooms and suites have an en suite bathroom with a bathtub or a shower, air-conditioning and WiFi connection. We have eight rooms altogether, all with unique, stylish furniture recalling old times. The lounge and the reading corner offer you a place to relax and socialise.
Gastronomic experience is exclusively served up by homemade dishes and beverages made of local ingredients. Food and drink turn into art in the hands of our chef, Viktor Ekler, who has been awarded two Gault & Millau hats. It is quite natural for us to pop round to our neighbours’ for some eggs or prepare a lamb or some chickens, which then wind up on the weekend menu. The surrounding forests provide fresh mushrooms and game in season. Sun-ripe vegetables – the essential ingredients of our breakfast – and the fragrant herbs that freshen up our meals all grow in the garden of the Platános.
The countryside around offers a number of activities: go to see Szegedi Fehértó, a lake which is deservedly famous for its bird world; the beautiful Dongéri Main Canal; or the Ópusztaszer Heritage Park, which is just 12km away. You can also visit the first Hindu temple in Hungary, or see Szeged, the city of sunshine, which is only 18 km away, and which offers visitors several programs all over the year.
Large sprawling pastures dotted with swirling meadows and woods are waiting to be discovered by lovers of horse riding. There are no fences here everywhere; tens of kilometres can be ridden without any obstacles blocking your way. You can ride all over Homokhátság area with our tour guides; we can as well arrange for you have a multi-day tour. Qualified riding instructors are happy to teach beginners.
